Permit Types

TCU uses virtual parking permits connected to your license plate. When you purchase a permit through the Parking Portal, be sure to enter your license plate information accurately. Your permit isn’t valid until your vehicle is properly registered with TCU Parking & Transportation.

What You’ll Need Before Ordering:

  • License plate number – this is how your permit is verified, so double-check for accuracy
  • Vehicle make (e.g., Toyota)
  • Vehicle model (e.g., 4Runner)
  • Vehicle color (e.g., Blue)
  • Important: Students, faculty, and staff should not create visitor parking accounts. Those are only for individuals not affiliated with TCU.

When Permits Are Enforced:

  • Monday–Friday, 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Reserved spaces, disabled spaces, and fire lanes are enforced 24/7, year-round
  • Enforcement continues during Fall Break, Spring Break, finals, and summer
  • Parking is not enforced during official TCU holidays when university offices are closed

TCU uses license plate readers to enforce parking, so your plate must be clearly visible from the driving lane and securely mounted to the front or rear bumper. Plates can’t be blocked by bike racks, bumper guards, or placed on the dashboard. If you change vehicles or license plates, or drive a different car temporarily, update your info in the Parking Portal to avoid a citation.

  • Do not park in handicap-accessible spaces, at bicycle racks, on sidewalks, or in a way that blocks ramps or sidewalk access.
  • Motorcycle parking is also permitted in the rider’s assigned reserved lot, as well as in Lots 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, and the PV-4 University Baptist Church lot.

Bicycle permits are required but are free and do not expire. Bicycles should ONLY be secured at bicycle racks. Bicycles secured to fences, railings, landscape, or anything other than a bicycle rack may be confiscated.

Students operating non-motorized or electric scooters, skateboards, or other similar devices are required to register for a permit and exercise extreme caution, being mindful of the pedestrian and vehicle traffic on campus. These devices are to be treated with the same rules as a bicycle. They are not allowed to be left unattended or stored in areas such as hallways outside of classrooms or dorm rooms, walkways intended for pedestrian traffic, or other common areas of campus buildings. Devices found in these areas may be confiscated and brought to the TCU Police Department. We recommend securing these devices, when possible, to a bicycle rack utilizing a secure “U-lock” style lock with a solid shackle.

Disabled placards must be verified in person by Parking & Transportation and will be added to the individual’s purchased parking permit. A copy of the placard or license plate number, along with the driver’s license, must be on file. Please visit our office at 3025 Lubbock Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76109 to verify.

Parking is allowed in any white-lined space campus-wide (including visitor spaces), any state-marked handicap space, and time-limited spaces (for the posted time).

Do not park in reserved spaces, loading docks, fire lanes, or other restricted areas.

Only vehicles with valid state or federal handicap license plates or placards (hang tags) may park in designated handicap spaces. TCU Police may ask for proof of ownership and can verify that the placard or plate is being used by the rightful owner.

Those with temporary handicap placards (typically red and valid for up to 6 months) will receive a standard permit based on housing or employee status.

Important Notice for Disabled Veteran (DV) Plate Holders:

Senate Bill 792 – Disabled Veteran Plates and Parking Privileges – Effective January 1, 2022, any vehicle parked in a disabled parking space must display a disabled person license plate or placard with the International Symbol of Access (ISA). Most current DV plates do not display the ISA. Veterans wishing to use disabled parking must apply for either a placard or a new DV plate that includes the ISA. Please note: not all disabilities that qualify for a DV plate meet the criteria for a plate or placard with the ISA.

Visitor parking permits are virtual with no physical permit/sticker and are tied to the vehicle’s license plate. A vehicle’s license plate must be correct. Just one incorrect number or letter will result in citations and towing.

Permit owners are responsible for updating their vehicle information if they get a different vehicle, a different license plate number, or temporarily drive a different vehicle to campus.

License plates (rear or front) must be easily visible to the parking lot aisle/roadway. License plates must be securely fastened to the vehicle bumper area. License plates displayed behind objects (bicycle racks, bumper guards) or on a vehicle dashboard are not acceptable.
